Fashion Fun in Foggy Frisco

IMG_0603Living in San Francisco means putting outfits together in a very tempremental city. Where being a fashionista is completely underrated, not only do we forecast trends- we also forecast the weather daily, hourly, and from one neighborhood to the next. This means styling an outfit that is not only fashionable, but functional and being prepared for anything, anywhere. Read on for some tips to styling in SF, and stop into the store to shop the looks shown here!

IMG_0605Layer it all on. You can never have too many layers. Scarves are essential. Not only are they on trend, they really do keep you warm. A light weight woven jacket goes a long way. It will block the wind in ways your knitted sweater will never do, and it’s easy to carry or tie around your waist. We’ve thrown our Blank NYC military-inspired jacket on over one of our favorite Haute Hippie camisoles, and finished the look with a simple, black infinity scarf.

IMG_0604Learn to let go of having perfectly coifed hair. Flip it and let it blow in the wind every once in awhile. Now if you find yourself in one of those intense wind tunnels when the the fog rolls in, put your hair up quick in a bun. The sooner you get it up the better. Carry a small bottle of hair oil to combat the frizz. As you can see, a texturized mane works perfectly with the military-inspired trend.

Wear the right shoes. Don’t wear heels if you have to walk downhill (which as we all know, happens very IMG_0603often!). It is an impossible endeavor which will begin with you holding onto the side of a building and inevitably falling, or going the rest of the way barefoot- and let’s face it, neither of those scenarios is ideal. Mix up your prints and throw some leopard print Vans on with a stripe, floral, or in this case, a watercolor. But if you’re like Victoria Beckham and simply cannot think in flats, some heeled boots or booties; anything that wraps around the ankle; or that has a wedge will look chic and are safer and more comfortable for trekking up and downhill. Cool biker details always add some pizazz to an outfit, and chunky heels also help.

IMG_0607IMG_0613Last but not least (and perhaps the most San Francisco-centric styling tip there is)- always have some funky garments ready for those themed block parties (i.e Bay to Breakers, Pride, How Weird street fair, Pink Party…just to name a few.) San Francisco will find any and every excuse to play dress up. Pair a wild, printed top- like this awesome, open-backed top from our shop- with some black skinny jeans, or go all out with a full-on funky costume. Let’s be real- even if you try, it’s impossible to have the craziest outfit in San Francisco. So, throw caution to the wind, and go all out!

RT Street Style

Our second installment of the RT Street Style is an extra special one- not only is this week’s fashionista one of our most loyal customers, but she was also spotted on her lunch break rocking a couple of her favorite Retail Therapy pieces! Check’er out!

IMG_0434Asi Afuhaamango is a salon receptionist at Woodbrige Salon on Chestnut Street, and on her breaks likes to stroll the sunny Marina shopping around. Asi styled our furry zip-trimmed sweatshirt with leather insert leggings and coordinating light brown leather boots. She then stepped up what could’ve been a totally casual outfit by adding our gold square tier necklace for a touch of glam. She finished off the look with some round sunnies, a burgundy lip, and her ombre hair pulled half back. A perfect outfit for a grey day, and totally chic to boot! Read on to see what miss Afuhaamango has to say about her eclectic personal style.

personal style mantra: a little bit of everything. Super casual and boho sandwich

favorite trend: circular lens sunglasses
trend you can’t wait to see disappear: distressed high waisted shorts
clothing item or accessory you can’t live without: a good pair of boots/booties
fashion icons: Nicole Richie and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley with a sprinkle of Rihanna
Thanks, Asi! Girls, think you’ve got what it takes? Stroll on by the store, or keep it fierce in your ‘hood, and we’ll be sure to spot you! We’re always on the hunt for stylish ladies who love fashion as much as we do!

Be Mine

Heart_clipart-7Whether you’re spending Valentine’s Day with a lovah or your true love (a.k.a your BFF), we’re writing this ode to the clothes we love and that would go great with bubbly and your companion(s) for the holiday. Here’s to thinking outside the (heart-shaped) box (of chocolates)!

IMG_0461If you follow us on Pinterest (wait, you don’t? What the…), you’ll notice we loveIMG_0465 the mix of delicate, feminine pieces with less refined items. So, true to our nature, here is a great Valentine’s Day outfit. Our new silk Haute Hippie racer back cowl neck tank in a deep red shows just enough collar bone and naked back to keep ’em staring from entrance to exit, and atop our ripped boyfriend jeans it looks alluring and laid-back at the same time. Keep your hair messy (ahem, is there anything more inviting than bed-head?) and makeup subtle- a neutral lip and smokey eye work for a romantic date or for “Galentine’s Day” (Leslie Knope is a genius).

Our next ensemble is a fun look that works for night, day, girls’8c6d7e7576e33bdd1bae038c370c294f night, boy’s night, Spring, Summer, etc. depending on how you accessorize it. This tiered, floral, peach-y frock is as dainty as they come (and it’s on sale!), so we threw our favorite Rebecca Minkoff moto leather IMG_0511jacket on over it for some street cred. We’ve teamed it with some thrift store chunky brown leather heels, a dainty gold necklace, and our Lush Leather bright blue clutch for an unexpected pop of color. Who cares who you spend this Hallmark Holiday with this year- an outfit this cute will have you falling in love with yourself (as you should)!

IMG_0419Last but not least, we are going retrograde- a matching set. This set is adorned with romantic black and white watercolor roses, and is slightly reminiscent of a negligee. Let us sing our praise of matching sets yet again– 1) an entire, perfectly matched outfit 2) a separate top perfect with jeans or skirts or trousers or.. 3) a separate pair of shorts that, in this case, would look so cool IMG_0421with an over-sized, black turtleneck sweater and OTK boots or with a tank and sandals in the summer. The drapey back on this Haute Hippie camisole is just begging for a top-knot, and the dreamy print would look darling with a soft pink lip and Brigitte Bardot cat-eyes.

Come on down to Retail Therapy on 2086 Chestnut St. in the Marina to get any of these looks, or just to get some good ol’ fashioned retail therapy! Happy Valentine’s Day!

An Ode to Dianne

aabe5be26f2973d6b24f3c46c4b57c7eThe giddiness felt when opening a new designer shipment in store can only be compared to that of Christmas morning when you were a little kid. Ripping open layers of packaging, knowing it’d be something good inside, but still pleasantly surprised by the wonders within. Our most recent unwrapping unveiled an exciting array of Theory, Haute Hippie, Catharine Malandrino, and a few more, but as always, the fashion tingles (fingles? Let’s make it a thing) bubble up when we get to the DVF dresses. Only the genius that is Diane von Furstenberg can pair a sophisticated, tried-and-true silhouette with wild prints to make a look that is both fresh and flattering. In this ode, we will show you some of our newest merchandise, and express again and again why we love DVF.IMG_0429

There are many a wrap dress in the world, and some are cute, while others are va-va-voom. Others, unfortunately, are matronly. Diane von Furstenberg perfected the wrap dress by making it subtly sexy and sophisticated with not an ounce of frump. Take this fun example from our shop, pictured in a fun blue bubble IMG_0430pattern. This could do for work or a day out with the girls. Equally as flattering and fun is this shirt dress. A wild print such as this becomes both tame and crazy-cool in a simple shirt dress style with a sash. IMG_0418

And our newest addition to our DVF collection is the short sleeve silk ruched jersey dress in spotted cat. This one is right on trend in it’s silhouette, but it still maintains that level of classic style that makes a DVF a D.V.F. We loved this one so much, we had to try it on. Love at first fitting!
